Paradise Lost Book 6 Summary Book 6 of John Milton's epic poem "Paradise Lost" continues the story of the fall of man, with Satan and his followers returning to the Garden of Eden to tempt Adam and Eve. The book also includes a description of the creation of Adam and Eve and their relationship with each other. The book opens with a description of Satan and his followers as they prepare to return to the Garden of Eden. Satan is filled with pride and arrogance, convinced that he can tempt Adam and Eve to disobey God's commands once again. Meanwhile, God creates Adam and Eve and places them in the Garden of Eden. He blesses them and commands them to be fruitful and multiply, but warns them not to eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Satan and his followers enter the Garden and begin to plot their next move. Satan decides to tempt Eve, who he sees as the weaker of the two, and convinces her to eat from the tree of knowledge. Eve is initially hesitant, but Satan's smooth words and flattery win her over. Eve eats from the tree and then convinces Adam to do the same. As soon as they eat the forbidden fruit, they realize their nakedness and feel shame. They cover themselves with leaves and hide from God. God soon discovers their disobedience and confronts them. Adam and Eve try to shift the blame onto each other, but God punishes them both with banishment from the Garden of Eden and a life of toil and suffering. The book ends with Adam and Eve leaving the Garden, filled with regret and sadness for their disobedience. Overall, Book 6 of "Paradise Lost" focuses on the themes of temptation, disobedience, and the consequences of sin.
