Traditional art is art that is apart of a culture which could include skills or knowledge that has been passed down through generations. After the World War, artists started to reject traditional skills respond with other forms of experimentation such as abstraction. These artists were influenced by the Modern Era or Post-war period. Impressionism was another form that was rejected by tradition. Impressionism is a 19th-century art work style that captures a feeling or experience rather than an accurate depiction. John Heartfield: Have No Fear, He’s a Vegetarian This art by John Heartfield is a form of the rejection of traditions. John used his technique to combat propaganda. He is considered the founder of modern photomontage, which would be rejected by traditional art. The photomontage is the process of cutting, gluing, rearranging, and overlapping photographs to composite a new photo. "Have No Fear, He's a Vegetarian" emerged in a moment of the war. Which criticized Adolf Hitler, and made him flee Germany. This piece foreshadows many of the disasters of World War ll. Modern Era/Post War art was created between the 1860s to the 1960s. The artists during this time were driven by a forward-thinking approach and new ideas to create art. “Have No Fear, He’s a Vegetarian” is an art piece that was influenced by the Modern Era/Post War Era. Heartsfield used photos to visualize the realities behind tension for war. He used his art for mostly propaganda and commercial purposes. He used new ideas to capture and express his feelings.
