Good evening everyone, As the engineering manager, regardless of how great the information provided by the supplier sounds, I would want to conduct my research. As a purchase of this kind would require a significant money investment, I would want to make sure that this will add value and help the company perform better. I would research the company (supplier), read their reviews, see which other companies they had worked with, and analyze if the implementation has brought significant value to other organization's operations. I would also dig deeper into why they do not want to work with any of my competition. That seems quite fishy to me. I believe there is room for the utilization of quantitative (numbers, quantifiable) data and qualitative (words, senses). Quantitative data can be defined as data that numerical values can represent; this type of data can either be discrete (counting) or continuous (measurements) (Soomo Learning, 2020). Qualitative data, also known as Categorical data, can be arranged by categories, use words, descriptive data built on observations (The Organic Chemistry Tutor, 2019). These two different kinds of data can help provide insight into pros and cons, failures and successes, and arrive at a determination. As I conduct my research, I have primary sources and secondary sources to choose from. Primary data sources are "accounts of an event or topic from people directly connected to it, such as witnesses, and original documents" (Soomo Learning, 2020). Secondary sources are interpretations of primary sources, nearly people that are not directed connected to an event. In that lights, I would use both types of data. I could use reports directly related to the software's performance and interviews with people familiar with the product but were not the decision-makers to get it. Lastly, I would ask the supplier to run the program on our operation to have direct experience with it and assess if it is practical.
