Rights of Nursing Delegation Role Identification/Scope of Practice Assignment Role Identification Assignment The purpose of this assignment is to provide an opportunity to apply knowledge of the legal scope of practice of the Registered Nurse (RN), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN or LVN), and Unlicensed Assistive Personnel (UAP/CNA). Instructions 1. Each student will complete and submit this template; include references in APA format. 2. Once completed, your group will prepare a 5-minute poster presentation creating a scenario through which the roles of RN, LVN/LPN, and UAP/CNA displayed on the poster template. 3. Clear differentiation of roles and legal scope of practice should be apparent. 4. The poster should include examples of appropriate delegation. List and describe the five rights of delegation. Delegation Right 1 Right Task 2 Right Circumstance 3 Right Person 4 Right Direction and Communication Description The task is within the designated person’s job description or follows the policies and procedures of the organization with which the person works. Training must be provided to the person and limits along with expectation of the activity must be clearly outlined (Taylor et al., 2019). The patient involved in the task must be stable. If patient condition changes the delegatee must notify the supervising registered nurse. The registered nurse must reevaluate the patient and determine if task is appropriate (Taylor et al., 2019). The registered nurse, employer and delegatee must determine if the delegatee has the right knowledge and experience to complete the task (Barrow, 2021). The registered nurse is expected to delegate tasks that are specific to each patient and provide clear instructions to the delegatee. The delegatee demonstrates an understanding and accepts the task given (NCSBN-Ana, 2019). 5 Right Supervision and Evaluation The registered nurse is responsible for overseeing task completion, patient outcome and documentation by the delegatee. The registered nurse is also expected to intervene if necessary (Taylor, 2019).
