Classification of Arthropods Special features of arthropods: - They are invertebrates - They have no backbone - They have an exoskeleton that is waterprost. This makes arthropods an extremely successful group, because they can exist un very dry places and are not confined to water or moist places like most other lnver tebrates - Their bodies are segmented - They have jointed umbs (the exos releton would otherwise prevent movement) There are more arthropods than any other groups of ammals, so they are dinded into classes. This picture below shows the difference between the four closses - insects, arachruds, crustacears, and myra pods. You only need to know about their external features.
