Plato and Rousseau. Response Paper

Vanessa Frederic 10/01/23 Mark Weinstien I never imagined that being in special education would prevent me from achieving my objectives. I still have the same aspirations I did previously, even though they have changed, but I am afraid to pursue them since I come from a conservative family. “I seem to be in great luck, Meno; while I am looking for one virtue, I have found you to have a whole swarm of them.” ( Plato Pg. 4) It was difficult for me to make the connection between this phrase and my final year of high school college application process. My professors didn't think I had the good fortune to graduate from high school until I was a senior after receiving an autism diagnosis when I was just four years old. I was able to excel in life because of my learning condition, yet every teacher in my school district took my luck for granted. I couldn't even register for honors or AP classes since I was in a program for students from diverse backgrounds. I had the good fortune to excel in track and get scholarships, but my mother informed me that I was prohibited from attending a college in the South even if I had received a track scholarship. This strikes me as prejudice since, for no other reason than the fact that my two younger sisters were not enrolled in special education while I was, my mother chose to focus more on my siblings' ambitions and abilities than mine. “Is it possible to manage a city well, or a household, or anything else, while not managing it moderately and justly?” ( Plato Pg. 6) I can relate to this proverb as a parent of an autistic child since I am aware of the difficulties that come with putting your child in the outside world, like going to school. I know I'm ready to change schools, but I haven't informed my parents yet because I'm afraid they won't be able to raise me properly if I'm too honest with them. When I was a senior in high school, my parents would make fun of me by claiming that I was considering attending numerous colleges. To make matters worse, my mother threatened to prepare me a bowl of rice every day if I didn't enroll in college, which annoyed me. Realizing that your child could live distant from you when they leave for college makes parenting extremely difficult. I'm afraid to tell my parents that I'm changing schools because they still don't know. My parents threatened to keep me at home due to my autism, which still greatly upsets me today, even though they knew that my participation in athletics would help me pay for college by giving me scholarships. My parents believe that you need to be an honors and AP student to go to college. made me internally sob. It takes a lot of work to care for a child with autism since you never know what to do with them as they get older. I still go to school, despite having an autistic spectrum diagnosis, and my mother remarked that there are times when she wishes she had put me in a box so that I wouldn't be able to go. It's unjust that I'm treated differently from my other two siblings and am on my own for everything. After I finished high school special education, my mother used to suggest that I get tested to determine whether my autism had gotten worse, but she no longer takes the effort to do so. I can't tell what I have anymore, so I have to rely on pills, which is upsetting. My school instructors' treatment of me in terms of what I could and couldn't accomplish caused my work to decline. It frustrates me that I used to be babied to death at work. To get back on topic, if you are a student getting special education assistance and you live with a family, your family might not value your convictions about completing specific activities on your own. “Emile is not an essay, a treatise, or a handbook on education; it is a utopian work that describes Rousseau’s dream of an ideal education.” (Pg. 1 Rousseau) I guess I agree with that. Education encompasses more than just following a predetermined route. I think there are many ways that information might help you respect your interests. If I decide to transfer to Rutgers the following year, I am not required to finish my Montclair State University degree. I think everyone who wants to get an education should follow Rousseau's idealistic objective. No matter how unworthy my conservative parents might think I am, I wanted to get the greatest education I could, and I still want to make sure I go to Rutgers University to get the best social work degree I can. Despite what some may think, I think I have the right to become more autonomous at the age of 20 when I begin my social work degree at Rutgers. As they do for my siblings, I wish my parents had allowed me the same freedom to pursue my goals. Being a student in special education can occasionally be demoralizing since teachers used to tell us or lead us to believe that life would be more difficult for us due to our learning disabilities. Since I was enrolled in special education in middle school, my guidance counselor recalled asking me to use a tool. The school's corridors were off-limits to me when I was free. Having said that, I want to stop eating truffles and focus on my social work profession, which will allow me to work as a therapist, support students in special education, and much more. Being a student in special education might occasionally be discouraging since teachers used to tell us or make us feel that our learning problems would make life more difficult for us. My guidance counselor remembered asking me to utilize a tool in middle school since I was enrolled in special education. When I was free, I wasn't allowed to wander the hallways of the school. Having said that, I want to give up truffles and concentrate on my career as a social worker, which will enable me to work as a therapist, provide help for children with special needs, and much more. Because teachers used to inform us or give us the impression that our learning issues would make life more difficult for us, being a student in special education might occasionally be disheartening. Recently, a buddy of mine advised me to transfer to a university where I could enjoy myself without being observed to earn my Montclair State University degree. Participating in special education programs did not help me; rather, as I grew older, I became worse and more challenging to teach. I wonder whether this will change my parents' views about me attending college far from home. Now that I'm completely autonomous, I'm prepared to be an adult. I can't wait to grow up with autism, even though it irritates me that I still don't have that privilege. I didn't have an ideal education because of my unique schooling, and that ideal education pushed me to the bottom. In my opinion, general education takes into account your obstacles and history in addition to the best academic practices and classroom teaching methods. IEP meetings were annoying. In the past, professors would reprimand me with statements like, "You're always on your phone, you're too shy, you crack too many jokes, and you hardly ever stay after school." I simply want the chance to experience happiness once more and to be free to experience college life without my parents hovering over me. Simply because they had to transport me to work and school every day, my parents regret not having me attend a school away from home. I believe that my unique education contributed to my recent job loss. I had a hard time learning some social cues because I was in special education years ago. I occasionally lose a lot of friends as a result. In high school, having autism caused others to avoid me and have negative opinions of me. My autism made it very difficult for me to make many close relationships. I become melancholy occasionally even knowing I have autism, which prevents me from leaving my room and chatting to my sisters.
