2-5 Assignment: Journal: Importance of Analysis
The author’s purpose of this article, “Some Lessons from The Assembly Line” is to show
his audience that pursuing a college degree is important. He explained that working in a factory
for minimal pay was not the way to live life. He also demonstrated that he values his hard work
as well. In the article he mentioned how harsh it was to work 12 hour shifts and use the
machines. The author’s style of writing is conversational, and the tone is casual. While reading
this, I have learned that pursuing a higher education is imperative for a better future. Being able
to not work so hard and be financially stable is something very desirable.
A closer analysis has helped me to learn to value the higher education I am pursuing. By
taking notes, summarizing and being able to relate to his experiences, I fully understand the
meaning behind his article. I have had some tough jobs over the years for minimal pay because I
did not have a college degree. That was the whole reason for me to start my college education. I
was sick and tired of working dead end jobs with no future in sight for advancement. Furthering
my education is something truly rewarding, and I value it very much.
I think the author’s purpose was made very clear. He effectively communicated how working
in a factory is hard work and he never wanted that to be his future. He is teaching his audience
to value their education and to not take it for granted. Getting a college degree will lead you
down the path of success. The meaning behind this article really stood out to me and has made
me feel incredible for pursuing a higher education.
