Dispute origins occur between the Thai Embassy as well as the U.S officials and the
Asian Art Museum. U.S officials (Department of Justice) after learning the items had been
"illegally taken" from Thailand, U.S officials filed a civil complaint seeking their forfeiture in
which the museum agreed to. The Thai Embassy said, "the return of these antiquities holds great

people”. Meanwhile all though with willingness and agreement to the forfeiture the maintains
that US authorities are yet to present "affirmative evidence" that the items were illegally taken.
The willingness to cooperate from the museum strains, museum researchers were unable to
locate copies of export documents that could prove the Thai government authorized the lintels.
The death of the dealers’ futures the cooperation because they will never be able to determine if
the documents ever cease to exist.
