Project Management Strategies Lean Manufacturing When evaluating the process flow chart, the steps I believe do not add value to the process flow chart based on the principles of lean manufacturing would first be, Leaves are removed from trays and reweighed; poor-quality leaves are thrown away. I believe this step can be completed while the leaves are visually inspected, the step prior. As they are inspected, poor-quality ones are tossed. Secondly, Leaves are weighed, the step after Leaves are sorted; small, misshaped, or discolored tea leaves are discarded. The leaves should be placed on the scale whereas the leaves needing to be discarded are removed, the current weight will update. Sustainability The four steps that I believe should be removed are Leaves are removed from trays and reweighed; poor-quality leaves are thrown away, Leaves are weighed (the second one), Leaves get a second sorting, Tea bags are sealed. All these steps listed can be merged with the step before. It may be work that still needs to be completed, but it can be completed in one steady flow with the step listed prior. Process Changes By removing these particular steps, the process flow will be better streamlined. It will cut back on waiting time between each of these steps by merging the task with the task set before it. They will help to align the Triple Bottom Line by creating a more flowing, easy workflow for the employers. It will also assist the company by improving the production time and getting their product out to the customers faster, creating a more positive customer base. Issue Log After analyzing the issue log, here is my recommended course of action regarding the issues listed. First, to sit down with each stakeholder and review their role within the project, what they wish to see accomplished, and how they feel we can accomplish it. Reiterate that we have an entire project team to complete these tasks and to do so, need to have the scope finalized to be able to complete each task within the allotted timeframe and budget. Regarding the product packaging to shiny foil, we can research the amount at which this would cost and compare it to the paper packaging we use now to see if it fits in the budget. I would also research to see how that product fits in the planet section of the TBL. Lastly, I would meet with the procurement department to see obtain a breakdown of how they would like these new funds to be used, and if it would ultimately change the timeline and tasks listed in the project charter. Operations Management Techniques Project management and lean manufacturing can add value to NationaliTeas by helping to streamline their product and create more sustainable products for their customers. By streamlining their process flow, NationaliTeas can not only produce their product at a fast pace for their customers, but they can also create a more suitable work environment for their employees.
