MECHANICS AND TRAUMATOLOGY OF THE SHOULDER BELT During sports practice, there is only exceptionally an isolated movement of one of the joints of the shoulder girdle. Shoulder dynamics are the result of combined movements of the three joints and the movement of the scapula on its sliding plane. We can distinguish: ➢ Sliding movements frontal of the scapula. These movements are accompanied by an anterior projection of the clavicle during the external sliding of the scapula (grasping an opponent with "arms to the body" in wrestling, lifting a bar placed on the ground), and conversely a projection posterior of the clavicle and an internal sliding of the scapula towards the spine (armed with the handball arm). ➢ Rotational movements, “scapula bell”. In this case the scapula rotates along an axis perpendicular to the plane of the bone passing through the supero-internal angle. External rotation orients the glenoid upwards. This movement is accompanied by an elevation of the shoulder stump and/or an abduction of the arm beyond 0° (all exercises performed with the arm extended in abduction, suspension, balance, etc.). Rotation inwards orients the glenoid cavity outwards and downwards. The great freedom of the shoulder girdle, and its relative constitutional fragility, exposes it to numerous traumas during falls or repeated movements in series during sports practice. The pathologies encountered are: ● - Apophyseal detachments (only in children). ● - Tendonitis (rotator cuff, abductors, long biceps, etc.). ● - Fractures (humeral head, scapula, clavicle, sternum) ● - Dislocations (acromioclavicular, scapulohumeral, sternoclavicular). ● - Ligament conflicts (glenoid labrum syndrome). ● - Neurological damage (suprascapular and C.Bell nerve).
