ADMINISTRATION OF EYE MEDICINE (EYE DROPS AND OINTMENT) EQUIPMENT 1. Medicine bottle with a sterile dropper or ointment in a tube (depending on the type of medicine). 2. Medicine book. 3. Sterile cotton balls 9stuppers). 4. Wet cotton balls (normal saline) are sterile. 5. Wash basin with warm water. 6. Blindfold (if necessary). 7. Sterile gloves. PROCEDURE A. Pre-Interaction Stage 1. Greet/greet clients 2. Introduce yourself 3. Explain the purpose of the action 4. Explain the procedural steps 5. Ask the client's readiness 6. Wash your hands B. Orientation Stage 1. Greeting as a therapeutic approach 2. Explain the objectives and procedures for the action to the family/client 3. Ask the client for readiness before the activity is carried out C. Work Phase 1. Read tasmiyah 2. Arrange the client in a supine or sitting position with neck hyperextension. 3. Use sterile gloves. 4. With sterile wet cotton, clean the eyelids from the inside out of the eyes 5. Ask the client to look at the ceiling. 6. Instill eye drops - With your dominant hand on the client's forehead, hold the drug-filled eye dropper ±1-2 cm (0.5-0.75 inches) above the conjunctival sac and fingers.nondominant pulls the eyelid down. - Drop the prescribed amount of medication into the conjunctival sac. - If the client blinks or closes the eyes if the droplets fall onto the outer edge of the eyelid, repeat the procedure. - After instilling the drops, ask the client to close his eyes slowly. - Apply gentle pressure to the client's nasolacrimal duct for 30-60 seconds. 7. Putting in eye ointment: - Hold the ointment applicator above the edge of the eyelid, squeeze the tube so that it provides a thin stream along the inner edge of the lower eyelid.conjunctiva. - Ask the client to look down. - Open the upper eyelid. - Apply a thin stream along the upper eyelid to the inner conjunctiva. - Let the client close his eyes and rub the eyelids slowly in a circular motion using a cotton ball. 8. If there is excess medication on the eyelid, gently wipe it from the inside out of the canthus. 9. If the client has an eye patch, place a clean eye patch over the affected eye so that the entire eye is protected. Tape it securely without putting pressure on the eye. 10. Remove gloves, wash hands, and throw away used equipment. 11. Record the drug, concentration, number of drops, time of administration, and the eye (left, right, or both) treated. D. Termination Stage 1. Tidying up clients 2. Evaluate actions 3. Read the tahmid and say goodbye to the client 4. Tidy up the tools 5. Wash your hands 6. Record activities on the nursing record sheet
