This membrane has very small pores or channels that allow only molecules or particles smaller than the size of the pore to pass through, while larger ones are blocked. The basic principle of membrane filtration is to force a liquid or gas through a membrane by pressure, gravity, or concentration difference, so that larger particles are trapped on the surface or in the pores of the membrane, while smaller molecules can pass through the membrane and produce products that are purer. A variety of membrane types can be used in membrane filtration, including synthetic membranes, cellulose membranes, and ceramic membranes, with each having specific pore sizes and properties to suit application needs. Membrane filtration has many applications in various industries, including water purification, separation of molecules in biotechnology and pharmaceuticals, wastewater filtration, and purification of chemical products. The advantages of membrane filtration include the ability to filter very small particles, the ability to purify liquids or gases efficiently, and flexibility in using various types of membranes according to application needs.
