In an agricultural context, when a plant has antibiosis resistance to insect pests or pathogens, the plant produces compounds that are detrimental to the insect or pathogen. These compounds can be secondary metabolites, toxins, or other chemicals that interfere with the metabolism or bodily functions of insects or pathogens. Antibiosis resistance works by inhibiting the growth or causing the death of insect pests or pathogens at certain stages in their life cycle. In this way, pest or disease attacks can be effectively suppressed, producing healthier plants and reducing losses caused by these attacks. Examples of Antibiosis Resistance include: 1. Production of toxic compounds: Plants produce compounds that are toxic to insect pests or pathogens, such as alkaloids, terpenoids, or flavonoids, which can cause damage or death to the insects or pathogens. 2. Growth inhibition: Plants produce compounds that interfere with the growth or development of insect pests or pathogens, such as interfering with protein synthesis or inhibiting enzymes that are important in the metabolism of insects or pathogens. 3. Causes physiological disorders: Plants produce compounds that cause physiological disorders in insect pests or pathogens, such as damaging body cells or disrupting the function of important organs, which can ultimately cause death. Antibiosis resistance is an important strategy in integrated pest and plant disease control, because it can provide strong and effective protection against pest or disease attacks, as well as reducing dependence on chemical pesticides. The benefits of Antibiosis Resistance in plants are as follows: 1. Pest and disease control: Plants that have antibiosis resistance can protect themselves from attacks by insect pests or pathogens by producing toxic compounds or disrupting the growth of insect pests or pathogens.
