The fundamental tenet of a queue is that items are added to the back of the queue and taken away from the front according to the principle of first-come, first-served. For cases when components must be processed in the order they were received, a queue is the best option. The Essentials of a Queue There are two key operations that a queue supports: ● Enqueue: This operation adds a key to the collection. ● Dequeue: This operation removes a key from the collection and returns it. The key that is removed is the one that has been in the queue the longest, not the most recently added key as is the case with a stack. The benefits of queues Queues can in quite handy in a variety of circumstances. They can be utilized, for instance, to control inbound server requests.
