Three Questions: 1. What are the key principles that a registered nurse should consider when delegating tasks to other healthcare personnel? Key principles that the registered nurse should consider when delegating tasks to other healthcare providers include the 5 rights of delegation. The 5 rights of delegation include the right task, right circumstance, right person, right direction, and right evaluation/supervision. 2. What are three tasks that a registered nurse may assign to a licensed practical nurse and three tasks that a registered nurse may assign other assistive personnel? The licensed practical nurse may reinforce teaching, perform wound care, and insert catheters. The registered nurse may ask assistive personnel to perform vital signs on stable clients, record intake and output, and reposition clients. 3. What is your reflection on this video case study: I now know that LPNs may not administer IV medications and they may not begin IV fluids. LPNs may perform wound care that is not complicated. Assistive personnel may perform hygiene care and ambulation. Although LPNs and AP may complete these tasks the registered nurse should always be sure that they are being done correctly. The RN cannot delegate assessments, evaluations, or client teaching. The LPN can only reinforce what the RN has taught.
