The Human Respiratory
The respiratory system plays an important role in exchanging
oxygen and carbon dioxide gas in the body. Air enters through
the nose, is filtered and heated by nasal hair, then passes
through the pharynx and larynx where the vocal cords are
located. After that, the air enters the trachea which is
divided into right and left bronchi leading to the lungs.
In the lungs, air enters the alveoli or air sacs, where gas
exchange occurs between oxygen from the breathing air and
carbon dioxide from the blood. Oxygen is bound by red blood
cells to be distributed throughout the body. Carbon dioxide
resulting from metabolism will be carried to the lungs
through the blood vessels to be expelled during expiration.
This breathing process is controlled automatically by the
respiratory center in the brain. Thus, the respiratory system
ensures that the supply of oxygen and removal of carbon
dioxide runs smoothly so that the body's metabolism functions
properly.
Another important factor is getting enough rest, avoiding
excessive stress, and having your skin checked by a doctor if
there are any abnormalities. With the right care routine, we
can maintain optimal skin health.
To maintain the health of the respiratory system, we are
advised to exercise regularly, especially aerobic exercise so
that the lungs work optimally. Avoid exposure to cigarette
smoke and air pollution which damage the respiratory tract.
Drinking enough water, keeping your nose and mouth clean, and
consuming nutritious food are also important.
Also, do deep breathing exercises like pranayama yoga and
reduce stress with meditation. Stress can weaken immunity.
Enough rest and avoid staying up late so that the immune
system remains primed. Get an annual flu shot to prevent
respiratory infections. By implementing a healthy lifestyle regularly, the respiratory system will be maintained and work
optimally.
