What principles of wound care should the nurse include when completing wound care for a client with sutures? Principles of wound care include assessment, cleansing and protection. a. Assessment: Note the color length, width and depth, presence of exudate b. Cleansing: Perform wound cleansing and irrigation, cleans from least contaminated (the incision) towards most contaminated (surrounding skin). c. Applying sutures d.
