Therapeutic Use Induction of labor, enhancement of labor, management of posttpartum hemorrhage Complications Sepsis, an unripe cervix, immature fetal lungs, cardiac arrhythmia, placenta previa, hypersensitivity, postpartum hemorrhage Medication Administration Induction-IV-0.5-1 milliunits; increase by 1 milliunits/minute every 30-60 minutes. Contraindications/Precautions Placenta previa, Preeclampsia, hypersensitivity, Nursing Interventions Placing patient on a cardiac, fetal, uterine monitor. Monitor uterine contactions. Monitor I&O Interactions Surpress the central nervous system, maternal bradycardia, arrhythmias, Client Education Evaluation of Medication Effectiveness Increase in uterine tone, no postpartum hemmorhage, effective contractions ACTIVE LEARNING TEMPLATES Inform patient of the reason for Oxytocin and desired symptoms.
