The authors display their research from case studies and discuss the responses from teacher experiences as well. Peter Blatchford is a Professor of Psychology and Education at the UCL Institute of Education. He is also an Honorary Professor at the EU of Hong Kong. The authors demonstrate their findings using charts and conclude why smaller class sizes do matter based on their experiment results of overall higher student percentages. The authors of this article are professors of economics and worked in the school systems. Although this was an experiment on one campus, the authors used a controlled variables and discussed the overall interaction among student and professor in a positive light. The overall idea that student attentiveness and ability to learn the material supports the thesis that smaller class sizes create and overall positive environment. In Kempner’s research article he discusses how student reactions to the larger class sizes was almost immediately negative while the students in the small quiz classes kept interest and engagement. Kempner goes on to include direct quotes from the students who overall felt the smaller class sizes were easier to obtain the information and more beneficial. He also goes on to admit that the quotes are not confirming of statistics but do shed light on personal experience and the pros and cons of both settings. Kempner had over 25 years of teaching experience, held chairman positions, served in the war and was a respected member of the universities. He also conducted his own studies with colleagues on class sizes. This article supports the idea that smaller class sizes mean more individualized time with students to create a better learning environment. Students felt more comfortable in a smaller class setting allowing for better teacher relationships. They discuss how larger groupings and class sizes had negative effects on the quality of teaching versus smaller class sizes. They demonstrate their findings based on two phases of study. The Journal of Educational Psychology is a peer-reviewed academic journal that has existed over a century and discusses educational psychology. The results of this article support the claims that smaller class sizes do provide more individualized time with students creating more learning opportunities and academic growth. It also claims that is gives the students a more comfortable environment to approach their teacher. This article is broken down into different categories involving class size research. The authors discuss their research on small and large field experiments, survey research, specific state programs for small class size, and give different theories on why class in early years of school have an impact on education. Biddle was a Professor Emeritus of Psychology and of Sociology at the University of Missouri. Berliner was Regents' Professor of Psychology in Education, College of Education, Arizona State University. The Educational Leadership is a publication that conducted a series of research synthesis on major issues in education. The variety of research styles was an appeal to this source. It counters negative claims and displays theories as to why the smaller class sizes would impact a student’s ability to be better supported by their teacher. The author discusses that small classes, for certain states, can be cost effective if provided in elementary schools. The author also claims that the positive effects of smaller class sizes increase the likelihood of attending college in the future. The Monthly Labor Review is a publication that has articles dating back to the 1980’s including research summaries, analytic articles, and major issues. They are based in Washington DC and are part of the US Department of Labor. Gomal University Journal of Research, 37(01), 110–119. https://doi.org/10.51380/gujr-37-01-10 This article discusses the findings of class sizes in 4th grade classes of 51 different primary schools. They used observation techniques. They go on to describe the relationships between students and teachers in a small classroom and how it can enhance the learning environment. Their objectives were to find out if class size effects task completion, healthy relationships, and a good flow of feedback to the students in a smaller classroom. The authors both worked as educators. Kaleem held a position as an assistant professor. Muhammad Amir worked in an Elementary & Secondary Education Depart, as well as the Special Education Department. While this article does claim there is no significant data to determine class sizes are more beneficial, the article does provide positive results from their study for lower grade levels. They go on to support the ideas that teachers feel more confident in their abilities with smaller class sizes and that they are able to provide more positive environment. They first researched inquiry levels on course level, then academic departments, class size, and the type of inquiries being asked. They provide their data in several visual aids and discuss that there is notable difference in the inquiries among each category. They also support the claims that smaller class sizes the inquiry levels were almost always higher regardless of the category. The authors of this article all work in education systems in Canada. They have been in a classroom and personally experienced the different levels of student interactions based on their careers and research. Although the information provided in the article is not exclusively targeted towards class size. This article discuses that although member of legislation argue smaller classes are effective or obtainable the Student Teacher Achievement Ratio program continues to provide counter arguments in the form or results. The article conveys the benefits from having smaller classes, not just for the students, but the teachers as well. The article goes on to provide visual aids to support these claims. Achilles has over a hundred journal and research publications working in education. He has presented his research to multiple conferences to spread awareness. Summary: create a logical summary of the information presented in the source The author breaks down the benefits into different subcategories such as more one on one time, less behavioral problems, more time to individualize assessments for those students who need it and being able to implement more positive teaching methods. This author talks about her many experiences as an elementary school teacher, over 25 years, and what were her best experiences. She discusses several benefits that she has run into the years with smaller and larger class sizes.
