Paragraph 1 – Introduction The trade barrier that is discussed in the article that I found is a non-tariff barrier and is between the U.S and China. Usually, non-tariff barriers work in a way that they restrict the import and export of goods or services that doesn’t include tariffs hence being called nontariff trade barriers. Paragraph 2 – Article Summary The main idea in the article is about how the U.S and China have been in a trade war and that China used different methods to delay or restrain exported goods from the U.S reaching China. However in the last few years China has started on decreasing their trade barriers in hopes to end the trade war and help the U.S exported goods to reach China as the trade ban impacted the Chinese consumers more than it impacted the U.S. The author of the article is Chang-Tai Hsieh and the article is posted on the website Becker Friedman Institute” Paragraph 3 – Article Analysis The main opinion that is mostly present in the article is that non-tariff barriers hurt the importing country more than the exporting country, an opinion given by the author supported with evidence that it isn’t the first time an importing country that used a trade barrier had struggled because of it, as he gives examples of China using trade barriers on Canada and Australia banning 5G import from China. In all of the given examples the importing country is the one that usually suffered because of those trade barriers. Paragraph 4 – Your Position As the article states that importing countries are mostly affected by trade barriers, I think in this scenario even with the trade barrier being lifted I don’t think the U.S will benefit all that much compared to the Chinese economy. What I would only recommend is to steer clear from trade barriers unless they are absolutely necessary like in the case of the Russian trade bans where according to me if countries continued trading with Russia they would mostly likely be supporting the genocide of an innocent country, even in the scenario of Russia with the trade bans on it, we can see that effect the trade bans have on the importing countries with the energetic crisis that is going on right now.
