Study a case study about how Chinese tourists behaved in Chiang Mai, Thailand when there was a surge in visitors as a result of the film "Lost in Thailand" (2012). Carry out an analysis and provide recommendations on what needs to be done by Destination Management so that negative impacts such as what happened in Chiang Mai can be reduced or managed? Answer : The film "Lost in Thailand" which was released in December 2012 has made a profit of more than 6.5 billion bath. Many tourists came to visit Thailand after this film was shown, especially Chinese tourists. Chinese tourists came to Chiang Mai, Thailand to see firsthand the locations in the film. The Thai government is very happy with the increase in the number of tourists. However, it was unexpected that this drastic increase would bring disaster to the Thai side. Chinese tourists, as the largest contributors, actually have a negative impact on tourist destinations in Chiang Mai. For example, Chiang Mai University and the lakeside environment which is one of the settings in this film is a top priority to visit in Thailand and around 500 Chinese tourists wander around the campus every day. This really disrupts campus activities and comfort, as a result the campus has made a payment rule if you want to visit this campus. There are several behaviors of Chinese tourists that are very disturbing to the campus. Apart from wandering around, they also sneak into classrooms to take photos of teachers and students, set up tents near the lake and write "We are here" with dirt paint, leaving a mess in the canteen and other behavior. Strangest of all is the practice of costume play, where tourists buy or rent school uniforms and pose for photos. To avoid the same thing happening again, the university offers a 30 minute mini bus tour around the school. This amount of bad behavior from Chinese tourists will have a very bad impact if the destination just keeps silent, plus at that time the number of Chinese tourists has tripled as well as other foreign tourists. Therefore, before there is a surge in visitors, the destination management should analyze the tourist locations that will be visited a lot so that when the surge occurs, it will be easy for the management to control it. However, in my opinion, the idea of imposing a payment rule when visiting Chiang Mai University is very appropriate when there is a surge in visitors because visitors will think twice. And also in my opinion, if a payment rule is implemented, it will be easier for the management to know the tourist's destination, if the tourist is just curious then the tourist will only enter once and vice versa. Look for cases of tourist behavior that causes negative impacts (from the perspective of local residents) in a tourist destination. Analyze why tourists do this, and why local residents accept this behavior as negative behavior. Answer: Bali is a very famous tourist destination, especially among foreign tourists. So it is not uncommon to find many foreign tourists from Asia, Europe and America there. Bali is a tourist spot where there is a lot of interaction involving local people and foreign tourists. Foreign tourists who visit will of course bring their culture to this tourist spot and cultural acculturation occurs. This is what local people in other tourist destinations in Indonesia fear. The arrival of foreign tourists with a freer culture is feared to have a negative impact on their generation and erode their previous culture. However, this is different from Bali, the Balinese people still maintain their culture even though many foreign tourists come to visit. The way they preserve their culture is by turning it into a show that tourists can enjoy with several rules that must be obeyed. However, there are still some tourists who violate this rule by behaving badly around the destination and having a bad impact. An example is the case of a pair of foreigners who drank holy water in Bali. This incident was uploaded on August 10 2019 in a post on Instagram and went viral on social media, when it was uploaded by the official account of DPD RI member, I Gusti Ngurah Arya Wedakarna. Two foreigners whose full identities are not yet known committed harassment at a Hindu holy place. This harassment allegedly occurred in the area of the Monkey Forest tourist attraction, Padangtegal Village, Ubud District. The harassment carried out by these two foreign tourists was a male tourist washing the breasts of a female tourist, using water flowing from a shrine which is sacred to Hindus. They were also seen laughing out loud, without feeling guilty. The cause of this incident is thought to be due to the two foreigners' ignorance that their actions were prohibited by Hinduism and that the guide who guided them was not Hindu. Even though the shrine clearly says 'Do not wash your feet'. However, these two foreigners assumed that the prohibition was only for washing feet, while washing other parts of the body was permitted. This incident did not reach the realm of law because both parties had agreed to make peace, the perpetrator who had apologized had been forgiven, but the two foreigners were not allowed to return to their country before August 15, because they had to attend the pecaruan ceremony for the purification of Beji Temple. Why is this action considered negative by society because these two foreigners have insulted and insulted their beliefs as Hindus. As said by the DPD senator for the Bali electoral district I Gusti Ngurah Arya Wedakarna Mahendradatta Wedasteraputra Suyasa regarding the use of holy water, "If the visualization is of water flowing from a shrine, that is already an insult, because the water is used for things that are holy. So it is used For ceremonies, take the term tirta, even Balinese people cannot use it for bathing in some places like that, because there are temples where holy water is specifically taken, some are used for cleanliness, for the body." The water that flows from the shrine is the holy water that is used. For ceremonial purposes, tourists are considered to be insulting Hindus by using it for 'clenching'. So that this incident does not happen again, the destination management should be clearer and more detailed in providing information about the rules at the destination because judging by the tourist's confession, they think they are just washing. Only the feet are not permitted, but other parts of the body may be washed. Furthermore, educate tour guides to be more responsible in their duties and educate local residents so that they are able to understand differences in perception that may cause misunderstandings so that they do not immediately take the law into their own hands and problems can be resolved peacefully.
