American Yawp Ch. 2 Graphic Organizer Introduction How did the Columbian Exchange affect the New World? The columbian exchange affected the New World in good ways and bad. The exchange of goods brought new things to the New World that weren't there before, it brought new ideas and inventions as well as crops and different kinds of animals. The columbian exchange also brought dieseases which killed about 90% of the Native American population creating a need for Africans to be brought to the New world to be slaves and to perform the Spanish needs. Spanish America What was the great impact of the Spanish colonization? Spanish colonization had a great impact on the culture of the Native Americans in the New world. The Spanish came out of nowhere, took over the Natives home and made them do their bidding as well as ban their culture's ceremonies or rituals. And to add on top of that the Spaniards converted the Natives into catholicism, either willingly or by force. Spain’s Rivals Emerge How did other European colonization affect Spanish claims? The more that Europe began to colonize newfoundland and gain riches and people for their labors, the more other countries started to notice. As European colonization grew other countries started to see how much it was benefitting, so they (Dutch, French, etc) decided to join the competition and search for land as well. English Colonization Why was England late to exploration and colonization? England was late to the exploration and colonization, because first off it had been dealing with affairs with Ireland during that time. England wanted to conquer and pacify Ireland but Ireland fought and England didn't end up taking control. As all this is going on England is having difficulties with religion. King Henry (8th) abolished the Catholic church and in its place established, The church of England (Anglican), then years later, Mary Tudor became queen and temporally restored Catholicism, but when she died Elizabeth the first became queen and restored Anglican dominance over any other religion. All of these factors made England late to exploration and colonization.
