Kayla Herrington Microbiology A disease is a failure of the body to function normally infection is bacteria when pathogens enter the body and start to reproduce. Infection in the presence of harmful microorganisms a disease can happen from the infection not all infection leads to disease. Each pathogen has its own mode of transmission and lifecycle this is a list of different pathogens. 1. Bacteria Is single celled can reproduce independently + have simple cellular structures and can live in many different environments. 2. Viruses Smaller then bacteria cant produces on its own, need a host speed ex. Covid 19, HIV or the flu 3. fungi Single celled absorbs nutrients from their environment can cause infection ex. Yeast infections 4.parasites Lives on or in a host like tape worms or malaria Tape worm Portal of entry The portal of entry happens through a host that the pathogen enters like your respiratory tract (breathing in pathogens) gastrointestinal (indigestion of pathogens) thought skin brakes and the eyes and mouth. Portals of exit Exist in the body of an existing host out the respiratory tract (coughing,snezing) gastrointestinal tract (vomiting or feces) skin from cuts or scrapes or thought blood. Common ways infections are spread are by direct contact, raspatory droplets, airborne. Direct contact – touching an infected person or their body fluids (skin to skin or sexual contact) Raspatory droplets- when an infected coughs, sneezes or even talks Airborne – pathogens remain in the air and get inhaled by others
