An individual's experiences in Bronfenbrenner's macrosystem influence them in a variety of ways through life. Views on death are no different. To understand how the macrosystem influences an individual we need to understand what makes up the macrosystem. The macrosystem is part of Bronfenbrenner’s bioecological model, which details how a list of moving systems influence a person. The macrosystem in Bronfenbrenner’s bioecological model consists of social condition and the broader culture the person lives in. The social condition/broader culture would include things like social views, laws, and even religious views. So, how does the macrosystem influence a person's view on death? Social view on how death is handled greatly influence how death is viewed. For example, generally a lot of people in my environment handle death by grieving and holding a funeral for the deceased person to mourn their death. Since this is a common practice most people handle death in a similar manor. Religious view on how people should be buried, where, and how a person should die (ex. assisted suicide) affect how people view death as well. Two cultures that view death in similar but also different views are Jewish views and Catholic views. People of Jewish faith generally view death as "Tradition cherishes life but death itself is not viewed as a tragedy." (Lowey, S.E). In a similar fashion, people of Catholic faith view death in similar fashion with views of an afterlife after death. Where views begin to differ is in the handling of the deceased. For people of jewish faith "Autopsy and embalming are forbidden under ordinary circumstances." (Lowey, S.E). For people of Catholic faith "Organ donation and autopsy are permitted" (Lowey, S.E). In the end, both views are very similar with a few varying traits. Bronfenbrenner's ecological model can apply to the programmatic theme of Self-care. It applies to self-care because Bronfenbrenner's ecological model highlights how much of your environment influences you as a person. Of course, their are aspects of it you cannot control, but overtime you can begin to remove yourself from toxic microsystems that affect your own self-care. By doing so and being aware of Bronfenbrenner's ecological model, a person can begin to make changes for their own self-care. Microsystems over time still influence a person and in different stages of life still affect a person. For example, a person's job life is too stressful and that person is bringing that home with them affecting the people they care about and thus affecting themselves as well. Knowing how those microsystems intertwine with eachother can help a person improve on their own self-care.
