The Relationship Between Kp and Kc The relationship between Kp and Kc is Kp = Kc (RT)Δn where Δn is the difference in the sum of the coefficients for the products minus the sum of the coefficients for the reactants. Example: Σ products - Σ reactants If Kp is 1.9 x 103/atms at 25oC for the following reaction: 2 NO (g) + Cl2 (g) <======> 2 NOCl (g) What is Keq for this reaction? T = 25 + 273 = 298 K R = 0.08206 L atm/K mol Δn = 2-(2+1) = -1 Then: Kp = Kc (RT)-1 or Kp = Kc /RT or Kc = Kp (RT) So: Kp = (1.9 x 103/atm) (0.08206L atm/K mol) (298K) = 4.6 x 104 L/mol
