Wesley Beals and Jose Guerra Mr. Johnson Biology 9 Honors 5 May 2015 Nervous and Endocrine part 1 Neuron: They are nerve cells that transmit electrical signals throughout the nervous system Neurotransmitter: It is a chemical that is released when a signal reaches the end of one nerve cell and needs to get to nerve another cell Impulse: A strong urge to do something Stimuli: a thing or event that causes a reaction in the body Hormone: A chemical that is made in a gland that helps regulate different things in the body. Receptor molecules: A thing on a nerve cell that is receiving the neurotransmitter that was launched by the cell that needs to pass an electrical signal Reflex: A not controlled action that is a response to an event or thing Ductless gland: Any of the glands of the endocrine system that releases hormones directly into the bloodstream. Cell membrane: The wall around a cell that allows certain things in and out of the cell. Response: A reaction to something. 2) They both help control the body and they also help send messages through the body 3) The nervous system works through electrical signals. The endocrine system controls the body through hormones. The nervous system is mostly made-up of nerve cells, while the endocrine is made of glands. 4) The sensory neurons are the neurons that pick up signals from the outside world. Interneurons are the neurons that help transfer signals from the sensory neurons and the motor neurons. The motor neurons are the neurons that helps make muscles move.
