Hypothesis lesting Bioologists study the living world by posting questions about it and seeking scence - based responses. This approach is common o other sciences as well and is often refersed to as the scenterc method. Thescentfic method was used even in ancient times. but it was first documented by England's Ser Franas Bacon (1561- (626) who set up inductive metuads for scentific inquiry. The scentific method is not exclusively used by barologists but can be applied to almost anything as a logical problem- solving method. The scentific process typieally starts with an observation Cotten a prublem that starts with an observation and apply the scientific method to solve the problem. Recall that a hypothesis is a suggested explanaton that canbe tested. To solve aproblem, several hypothesis may be proposed Once a hypothesis has been selected, a prediction may bemade. A prediction is similar to hypothesis bur it typically has the format " If ... then..." A hypothesis must be testable to ensure that it Is valid. There is no experment that might show this statement to be false. To test a hypothesis, a researcher will conduct one of more of the hypothesis. This is important. A hypothesis can be disproven, or eliminated, but it can never be proven. Sclence does not deal in proots uke mathematics.
