2-2 Discussion: Theories of Victimization The victimization theory I chose is the lifestyle exposure theory. According to the lifestyle exposure theory, people who fit particular demographic profiles are more likely to become victims of crime because of the risky situations that their way of life exposes them to. This theory discusses why it is critical to understand how criminal tendencies are channeled by criminal opportunities. Some of the weaknesses of this theory is that the likelihood of victimization rises as a result of lifestyle choices that increase time spent in public places, particularly at night, and time spent among strangers. The theory I have chosen accounts for people increasing their chances by becoming a victim would be by a person's lifestyle choices and social roles. Most victimizations are thought to occur to young males who may not have had a decent family life or may be unmarried. This is because they are more susceptible and are more likely to associate with prospective criminals.
