Career Fair Reflection While attending the career fair, I visited with College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Faculty Led Study Abroad Program. They offer over 90 different study abroad programs, all led by TAMU faculty and include TAMU classes, so there is no transferring of credits from another university. Most programs are offered in the two summer sessions, but they also offer programs in the fall and spring semesters, along with during winter and spring breaks. The living accommodations, travel, and various excursions are planned out for the students, which makes planning the trip much easier. They encourage students to study abroad by saying there is many different financial aid options available. They also said a study abroad looks great on a resume. It makes you more global, well-traveled, and culturally aware, which makes a student stand out from others applying for the same job or internship. I also visited a company called City Year. City Year is a company that sends young adults to help at-risk schools in high-poverty communities in 28 cities across America. Their goal is to help students in 3rd-9th grade reach their full potential. 50% of students that drop out of school come from only 12% of schools. City Year wants to change this by encouraging kids to stay in school by helping them succeed and show the students people care about their success. People ages 18-25 are hired to work 11 months at a school as a tutor/mentor. Once hired, City Year employees help kids during and after school with learning and homework. They also spend time with the kids during lunch and during after school activities such as sports and clubs. Both companies were very professional. They were very informative and educated about what their companies were about, and what they offered to students. Going to the career fair was a good experience for me as I was able to practice dressing and acting professional, and meeting with companies to inquire about jobs and internships.
