Free Market Reproduction Scenario and Reflection The free market is the place where buyers and sellers come together to buy or sell an object. In the video, the two doctors talk about free-market reproductions. There are many ways to conceive a baby when couples cannot conceive naturally, they either use biotechnology like Vitro fertilization. But the video talks about whether it is ethical or unethical to have reproduction as a free market or not. Dr. Nguyen believes that reproduction ethical issues should not be brought into a marketplace. He believes that the free market is not an appropriate tool for advancing and it should not work as one. He thinks that it is unethical and should be presented to the public. Whereas on the other side, DR. Reynold, believes that the free market should be the place to address the issue and the public should be able to make their own decisions. She says that assisted reproduction requires the sperm, eggs, and worms from third parties, when the third party is involved there is ethical time, and money involved as well. She says that the marketplace is a perfect place to address the issue since we use the marketplace in all other ethical concerns all the time. People should be able to make impartial decisions and there should be some ease on the restrictions on the market regulations. They both had some interesting points in regard to free marketing in reproductions. I agree with Dr. Reynold, I think that the free market should not be biased, and it should ease the market regulations restrictions. Egg donors are increasingly being used as IVF in the USA, usually, they are unregulated which poses another critical ethical concern on how the providers use and what the implications might be (Klitzman,2016). Many processes are done by Vitro fertilization (IVF), many couples who are infertile and cannot conceive children use them by getting a donor egg or donor sperm and injecting it to the uterus. While these methods might be very expensive, many low economic couples cannot afford them. If we look at a college newspaper, there are many advertisements and it is not new to see an advertisement where it may say “ Loving, educated couple seeks egg donor; Caucasian, 5'3'' to 5'9"; healthy lifestyle, cheerful disposition, and high SATs”(Norris,2005). Many people donate eggs as well, but they might not get the money as they desire or deserve. Many people donate eggs because they need money. Some also donate multiple times and get health complications, but they still do it for money (Norris,2005). I think these reproduction systems should not be a totally free market because there should be some regulations to protect the donors and there should be protection regarding donor's health. Moreover, there should also be protection regarding the children. The advertisement for the egg donors in many places doesn’t provide the risk and many women don’t know the risk they are getting into (Norris,2005). As much as this can be hard on donors, it is also hard on the women who plan to enter the fertilization system. It is very expensive; hence it might not be affordable to many couples and women. So, the free market might be beneficial but at the same time also it does not give the right to the egg donors to make ethical decisions on their own. There are many ethical dilemmas on this topic, but I think there should be some restrictions on the free market for reproductions. So that it can support the sperm and egg donors. I think the donors and the parents should have their say in the decisions. This should not just be a market to buy and sell, but also a place where people can express their ethical rights on their decisions, and they should be informed of their risks and benefits.
