What do you consider a non-negotiable rule? Identify three of your future non-negotiable rules and explain why you chose them. What is the difference between non-negotiable rules and classroom values? How are these essential to the classroom? Hello Dr. Meyer and class. A non-negotiable rule is one that will not be modified. Three of my non-negotiable rules are (1) Be safe, (2)Be respectful, and (3) Try your best. I chose these three because they keep students safe while considering others' safety, listening with intention and speaking politely, and making sure students put forth their best effort. Values for a classroom differ from non-negotiable rules in that they define who we are as a group and the behaviors we conduct towards ourselves and one another. Values are frequently instilled in children by their parents, but they must also be instilled in pupils in the classroom since they help them get along and become better individuals. Non-negotiable rules, are principles that we expect students to obey and that will result in repercussions if they do not. Both are necessary because they help pupils develop a positive learning environment in which they learn to respect one another as well as the teacher. It also lets students know what the teacher requires of the students. I will allow students to help place subtopics under each rule so that they can take ownership of what is expected of them. Keeping the rules simple will be much easier to remember than having a laundry list of complex rules. I often refer to applesandbananas.com bog that has three rules. Respect people, respect property, and respect learning(2019). These three principles will address almost any topic or circumstance that arises in the classroom throughout the year. The goal is to make each rule obvious and unambiguous, to practice each rule as soon as possible after it is taught, and to praise pupils when they follow the rules.
