During the Enlightenment, education in Europe evolved from a religious to a scientific focus. This resulted in the formation of academic institutions such as Berlin's, which welcomed its first students in 1810 and fostered student independence. The Morrill Land-Grant Acts of 1862 and 1890 made public education possible in the United States. These institutions provided education in agriculture, technology, and other subjects, with a focus on practical application. This prepared the path for the contemporary land-grant university system to be established. Learning by doing and combining theoretical and practical knowledge were important elements of John Dewey's progressive education system, which he established around the beginning of the twentieth century. This strategy may be traced back to the rise of technical institutions and the growth of teacher education programs. Foreign student exchange programs, the expansion of multinational enterprises and joint research ventures, and the introduction of online learning all led to a more globalized higher education system in the twentieth century. It is widely acknowledged that resolving affordability and accessibility challenges is critical. It's no secret that the Obama administration is pushing for new public-interest laws and projects. However, difficulties in higher education have developed as a result of changes in technology, economics, population, and opinions about the value of a college degree. As a result of these difficulties, schools have been pushed to adapt in order to meet the ever-changing needs of today's students and the communities they serve. Higher education's progress over time has affected our present concept of and approach to education in general.
