Lack of parental discipline: -Violent criminals in sa generally have little to no education many come from 'broken homes' and have had disrupted childhoods -many suffered from economic strife marginalised parents/guardian. find it hard to earn an income and do not have the financial means to take care of themselves or children -Absence of proper guardians result in 'acting out derail -large no. of houses in SA headed by a minor (under 18) lack of mautrity of child heading home leads to lack of proper discipline: resulting in lack of balanced discipline and poor internalised moral principles and compass Subculture of crime: -Developes in areas/neighbourhoods where policing patrols are non-exsistent ineffective area left vulnerable to crime -Robbers refer to their life of as their occupation: started crime at a young age continued because could obtain money and material goods with relative ease -Felt the chances of being apprehended were slim given the current haphazard Cas -Unamed streets, absence of fixed addresses in informal settlementi make these areas hard to patrol/police -Criminals hide in these disorganised communities as they move and lose themselves in a different section quite easily when they learn SAPs are looking for them -These areas are breeding grounds for the so called subculture of crime
