(exposure to air pollutants) over weight/obesity, sedentary lifestyle, having a blood relative with asthma Medical DxDisease Asthma Nursing Management/interventions Assess breath sounds and respiratory rate, depth, and rhythm, assess the relationship of inspiration to expiration, assess for signs of dyspnea, monitor 02 stats, keep head of bed elevated Patho/ Etiology The pathophysiology of asthma involves airway inflammation, Intermittent airflow obstruction, and bronchial hyperresponsiveness. Contact with certain allergens, pollutants, dust, chemicals, and viral infections can cause a flare up. Diagnostics/Labs There is currently no gold standard for diagnosing asthma, and asthma is usually diagnosed from the patient's history and symptoms. spirometry, exhaled nitric oxide and challenge tests can be used. Patient Education Avoid smoking and exposure to cigarette smoke, learn how to monitor asthma and always have a quick relief inhaler with you, take medications and inhalers as prescribed by the physician, and avoid known irritants.
