Transport Proteins Protein Substance Transported Albumin Bilirubin, fatty acids Transferrin Iron Thyroxine binding pre-albumin T3 and T4 Retinol binding protein Retinol Globulin Haptoglobin Hemoglobin Hemoperin Heme Lipoprotein Triglycerides, phospholipids, cholesterol Buffering Action Plasma proteins are the second most important buffer after bicarbonate buffer in blood. Nutritive Role: Plasma protein mainly albumin serves as source of amino acids during limited amino acid supply. Cell uptake albumin by pinocytosis and degrade it to supply amino acids.
