Perception: The truly remart able thing about the word "out there" Is how stable and organized it seems. You go to the parking lot and put the key into the right car. You don't try to put it unto a Honda if you own a duick. At the Supermartet, you buy three small grape trust it that's what youneed. You don't comeback with turee very large lemons. You go to another room to get a certain book. It the book is sideways, upside down, lying on the floor, whatever, you don's decide it is nor the same book. But in every one of those pastions, the book looks entirely different to the eye. What amazing creatures we are! Through a combination o t unbom abilities and experience, we gradually are able to handle billions of bits of information correctly - We make the world make sense. This is perception. Perception is the process ot assembling sensory informarion so that we can under stand what the incoming energy means. Perception is always a matter of interpretation and expectation. Benjamin Frantlin used to enter tam his friends by hooking himselt up to an electrical laboratory apparatus; then they all held hands, supposedly getting a wonderful sensation. Everyone laughed and thought it was delight ful, but It was only a matter of suggestion (Oster, 1970.) Notes : Size constancy is the ability to retain the sue of an object regardless of where it is located.
