Experiment a. Tropism as a Response to Stimulation from the Environment Objective: To see some of the movements of plants which include tropical movements, namely: a. Phototropism b. Geotropism c. Hydrotropism Materials and tools: Plant material: Green bean plant seeds Tools : Soil, 2.5 kg polybag, perforated cardboard box, glass box, petridisk, cotton, rubber band, tape or double-sided tape. Ways of working: a. Phototropism 1. Clean the soil from dirt, then fill it into a plastic bag and water it until it reaches field capacity. 2. Soak 50 green beans for about 15 minutes, plant them in a plastic bag filled with soil. 3. Store the bag containing the seeds in a cardboard box with holes. Place the cardboard in several directions of the light source. 4. Observe the seed germination response every day for 1 week. b. Geotropism 1. Attach the cotton to the petridisk using a double-sided tape, then attach the green bean seeds that have been soaked for 15 minutes to the cotton also using a double-sided tape. Make sure all the seeds are arranged in the same direction. 2. Water the cotton until it is damp and close the petridisk. 3. Position the petridisk in an upright position so that the seeds are visible when they germinate by holding the petridisk upright in one position and holding it with wood so that the petridisk does not move. 4. Observe every day, after you see germination and the roots have reached a length of 1-2 cm, rotate the position of the petridisk slightly so that the root position which was originally vertical becomes horizontal, hold the position of the petridisk in this condition. 5. Observe the response of the sprout roots every day for one week of observation. c. Hydrotropism 1. Clean the soil from dirt and fill it into a glass box. 2. Soak the green bean seeds in water for 15 minutes and plant them in the glass box. Seeds are planted only on the edges (in the corners). 3. Water the empty middle part of the soil so that there is a wet area 4. Observe seed germination by looking at the behavior of the roots on the plant for one week. 5. Flush the middle part which is the wet area with water if there is a drought and try to keep it far away from the seeds so you can observe the response of the roots to the water provided. Experiment b. Nasti as a Response Movement to External Stimulants. Objective: To see nasti movement in plants Materials and tools: Plant material : PlantMimosa pudica and cucumber seeds Tools : Soil, small plastic pot Ways of working : a.The movement of opening and closing the leavesMimosa pudica - Plant the Mimosa plant in a pot with good growing conditions - Touch the mimosa leaves at the tip, middle and base of the compound leaf stalk - Observe the movement response given by the mimosa leaves and how long it takes to completely close all the leaves which respond to the touch given - Allow the mimosa leaves to return to their original condition and note how long it takes to do this - Write and summarize the results of the experiment by describing them and making graphs. b.The Twisting Movement of Vines - Plant cucumber seeds or other types of plants that have tendrils and twine in pots - Water regularly and after it starts to germinate with the hypocotyl that has been lifted from the surface of the soil, provide a stake to wrap around the tendrils of the plant. - Make observations every two days for 2-4 weeks - Observe the direction the tendrils move - Note environmental factors that might influence the movement (temperature, direction of sunlight and other factors) - Report observations in the form of descriptions
