Components of Protein Translation 1. Messenger RNA (mRNA): It acts as a messenger for the information present in the DNA. In eukaryotes, it is synthesized as large precursor molecules. It is always a single-stranded molecule encoding polypeptides. 5' end is capped with 7-methyl guanosine cap. 2. Ribosomes: Ribosomes are assembled on particles called ribosomal proteins. These are having DNA and proteins each. Two subunits, shaped like subunits, fit together to form a cleft. mRNA passes through a ribosome, and translation occurs. 16S rRNA 16S rRNA genes are a target in taxonomic studies. A language of nucleotides, some in length. rRNA genes are a set of single-stranded DNA molecules. 3-dimensional structure. At 5' end and has a complementary sequence. Often occurs in operons. A single gene cluster. Have a clover leaf structure. Can form a 3-dimensional structure. The anticodon can recognize the specific amino acid at the end of the mRNA. The anticodon can contain an anticodon loop. The other 2 major loops are a D loop which contains dihydrouridine and a TΨC loop which contains pseudouridine and pseudocytidine.
