ASSESSMENT OF THE RESPIRATION SYSTEM a) Giving oxygen through a nasal cannula Equipment : 1) Set of oxygen equipment a.Flow meters b.Oxygen supply 2) Nasal cannula and oxygen tube 3) Gaas and plaster if necessary. Procedure: 1) Explain the purpose and procedures for installation or use. 2) Wash your hands 3) Connect or attach the cannula to the oxygen set, adjust the flow meter. 4) Check whether oxygen comes out through the nasal passages, bubbles appear in the humidifier, the oxygen hose is not folded. 5) Place the cannula or outlet branch in the nostril. Arrange the hose by: a.Circling the head b.Tucked in the earlobe 6) Use gas to coat the ear area between the tube and the ear. 7) Encourage the client to breathe through the nose with the mouth closed. 8) Wash your hands. 9) Record the client's response in Ca-Per. 10) Remove and clean the tube and nostril every 8 hours of observation. b) Providing oxygen through a mask Equipment : 1) Oxygen supply and flow meter 2) Humidifier and distilled water 3) The mask to be used 4) Gaas or elastic pad Procedure: 1)Explain the purpose and procedures for installation or use. 2)Washing hands 3)Connect the mask with the oxygen set 4)Place the mask on your face over your nose and mouth. Use an elastic strap so the mask doesn't come off. 5)Use gas to reduce irritation to the ears and back of the head. 6)Washing hands. 7)Remove the mask and dry the skin every 2-3 hours if oxygen is given continuously. 8)Assess or observe the client's response to oxygen therapy. c) Giving oxygen through a catheter Equipment : 1) Nasal chatter, size: a. Children b. Woman c. Man 2) Oxygen supply 3) Humidifier and distilled water 4) Jelly and gaas. 5) Plaster 6) Lamp or small flashlight and spatula 7) Sterile or boiled water for oxygen tests. Procedure: 1) Explain the procedure to be carried out to the client and his family. 2) Wash your hands. 3) Arrange the client's position, namely semi-fowler. 4) Carry out an air or oxygen flow test by increasing the flowmeter to 3 l/minute. Connect the catheter to the oxygen tube then insert the tip of the catheter into the water (air bubbles come out). 5) Measure the length of the catheter to be inserted by placing the tip of the catheter from the tip of the nose to the earlobe. 6) Lubricate the tip of the catheter with jelly (which dissolves in water). 7) Release oxygen flow - 3 l/min. 8) Insert the catheter slowly through one nostril until the tip of the catheter is in the oropharynx. Check the catheter using a light and spatula if appropriate, the tip of the catheter is at the uvula. 9) Then pull again slightly until the tip of the catheter is not visible. 10) Plaster the catheter on the client's face upwards or to the side (cheek) fix the tube on a pillow or mattress. 11) Adjust the air flow according to the instructions given by the doctor. 12) Observe the client's response. 13) Note the client's response, oxygen flow and method of administration.
