Federalists & Anti-Federalists disagreed about
Supporting the new constitution
• Federalism is the division of power between
states & the federal govt.
• Checks & balances is a system that allows
one branch to limit ("check") the power of
another branch to keep a "balance" of power.
• The constitution can be amended by it is
a living document. The amendment process allows
the constitution to adapt to changing needs of our
nation & society.
Citizenship:
• The rights & responsibilities the citizens of the
U.S. have are voting in elections, serving on a
jury, running for federal political office (positions/jobs),
obey laws. Responsibilities- at home- doing
dishes, cleaning your room, walking the dog, sweeping
the floor, etc. At school - doing your work, pushing
in your chair, not chewing gum, being on time, etc.
In your city- picking up after your pets,
storing your trash bin after garbage day, etc.
