MODELS TO IMPROVE PHYSICAL ACTIVITY AND HEALTH BEHAVIOUR Explicit Methods Deliberate, laborious, and purposeful procedures are the characteristics of explicit processes. They drive behaviour towards goals and demand cognitive resources to exert control over activities. Explicit processes in the context of the physical activity adoption and maintenance model include executive processes like inhibition, updating, and shifting as well as social cognition variables like intents and trait selfregulation. The regulation of physical activity behaviour is greatly influenced by these explicit mechanisms. Social cognitive variables: When people believe in the advantages of physical exercise and their capacity to participate in it, they are more likely to establish physical activity intentions. The main factor influencing the prediction of physical exercise behaviour is intentions. Trait Self-Regulation: In areas pertaining to one's health, trait selfregulation is crucial. In order to accomplish long-term objectives, it entails blocking certain behavioural inclinations and launching goal-directed behaviour. The importance of initiatory self-regulation in the context of physical exercise cannot be overstated. Executive Functions: The prefrontal cortex supports executive functions, which control secondary processes and allow for self-regulation. For starting and modifying healthy behaviours, updating and shifting functions are essential. Unconscious processes Implicit processes are taught, automatic, unconscious impacts that are sparked by internal or external inputs. Affective responses and habits are two implicit processes that are emphasised in the physical activity adoption and maintenance paradigm. Affective Reactions: Affects are quick, implicit emotions that might have a positive or negative valence. While engaging in physical exercise, positive affective states encourage the conversion of intentions into behaviour, while negative affective states may obstruct this process. Habits are instinctive urges to behave in response to signals that are established via repeated behaviour in predictable circumstances. Habits are hard to break and may have a good or negative impact on how much you move. In conclusion, both conscious and implicit mechanisms are active when affecting a person's physical activity behaviour. The way these processes interact is influenced by one's capacity for self-regulation and how often one engages in stable situations. Key elements in fostering physical activity and habit development include positive emotional responses to physical exercise and excellent trait selfregulation and executive function skills.
