Attention/concentration and imagery. Concentration 4 parts 1. Focus on relevant cues in the environment. (selective attention)  Kids watching tv and wont focus on anything else. 2. Maintain that attentional focus overtime. 3. Maintaining awareness of the situation. 4. Shift your intentional focus when necessary. Attentional focus 2 types Associative attentional strategy- monitoring your internal state (feelings, thoughts) Dissociative attentional strategy- purposely distract yourself from your internal state. Boxers during a fight are dissociative and between rounds are associative.     Broad- QB’s must have broad focus. Narrow- Darts Internal- body, thoughts External- outside your body Attention selectivity- Want to let some information into our awareness while other information is ignored.    Distracted by external things. Can’t divide or move around your focus, be able to shift when something happens in the environment that requires you to shift. Choking occurs- too much focus on your body Improving focus 1. Practice in realistic settings  Stimulate competition when training.  Create distractions. 2. Create and maintain routines.  Rely on when you get distracted.  Athletes have routines.  Triggering mind and body to get in the rhythm for attention. 3. Manage self-talk.  Notice when your mind starts saying things like “I’m terrible at this.” And just let it go 4.
