Leadership Leadership: the behavioral process of influencing individuals and groups towards set goal Managing and leading   Managers are responsible to make things occur, making sure everyone is supposed to do what they do. Leading includes the qualities of a manager but also creating a future oriented vision or direction. Setting a strategy Power and authority   Authority is the influence that you have because of your position within a system. Personal intangible forces Power is someone you cant replace like a super star player. Approaches to studying leadership. Trait approach  Tries to understand leadership by looking at personality characteristics. Behavioral approaches    Don’t look at their personality characteristics, look at what they do, how they act. 2 qualities: respect, mutual trust and create structure (goals, how we are going to do things) Positive feedback Interactional approach    Take into consideration who the leader is and the situation they are in Primary – people make sure people are doing what they are supposed to do Task orientated Contingency model of leadership   Look to see how a coaches style match the players.
