Attribution and cognition Cognition- thinking process. Attribution- how we explain things.                   Locus of Stability- how enduring or permanent a factor is, is it stable or temporary Locus of control- refers to a persons beliefs about how much control they have over what happens Locus of causality- internal or external Locus of control athleticism is stable and internal Effort is temporary external Task difficulty- locus of control is external, stable Luck- external and unstable/temporary Individual differences- your personality Defensive patesism - defensive style of predicting things to defend your failure ^Negative predictions to protect ourselves from disappointment/ failure Fixed mindset- you think your good at something or bad at something and it stays the same Growth mindset- you can improve even from failures and see failures as a way of improving Demographic- gender, race, ethnicity, age Culture- the way we are brought up shapes our way of explaining things Self-serving attribution- I accept credit for success and I blame failure on external factors Action Bias- tendency to do something different. Change or do something different so we don’t stay the same like changing coaches or players The “hot hand”- trust the guy who is on fire. Explaining something on false illusion. Destructive thought patterns- observe destructive thought patterns so they don’t mean anything to you. For example, a racer that has trained their whole life for a 10 second sprint will be nervous but has to perform Teaching athletes to focus on effort, increase sense of efficacy, increase expectations
