● How do our attitudes impact our view of gender? Our attitudes impact the way we view gender because, you can either accept those who come out as a different gender then what they were before or you can not accept it. Most people have this idea of what a man and woman should be like, the way they should dress, act, walk, talk. And if these ways done line up with the gender of the individual people tend to not want to deal with that person. A perfect example of this is when it comes to gender reveals, The colors are almost always pink for girl and blue for boy. When in reality a color is just a color. It shouldn't define a gender nor define a person. ● How does personal belief impact our view of normal and abnormal? Personal belief plays a very important role in what we consider normal and abnormal. Its all about the way in which we were raised. The things were were taught in our childhood lead us to the actions we make today. If my parents taught me from a young age that mental illness was not normal and that I should steer clear from people whop have it, it would be something that I would do until I could educate myself on what mental illness is and have my own voice in the matter and realize that people with mental illnesses are no different then anyone else. ● Does culture play a role in our perceptions of gender? Absolutely, culture plays a huge role in our perceptions of gender. Growing up, lots of individuals are taught about the differences between men and women, we are taught that only men can do certain sports, play certain games, wear only men's clothing. Same goes for woman. However in todays society it is okay for a woman to dress in men's clothing without anyone around questioning their gender/sexuality. Whereas if a male wanted to paint his nails or wear a girly shirt, instantly people would question his gender/sexuality. So I do believe our culture and the knowledge that was instilled in us from a young age plays a big role in our perceptions of gender. ● In what ways can one validate an individual’s gender expression? There isn't really a right way to go about validating ones gender expression without possibly being to invasive. The best way to validate someone's gender is by simply asking them what they chose to go by, because there isn't just male and female. Some individuals don't like to put labels on their gender, and they don't identify themselves as male of female. ● How does the concept of gender dysphoria apply to any of the following programmatic themes? Gender dysphoria follows the programmatic theme of social justice, because no matter what you may identify yourself as, you should always get the same respect as any other individual around you. In the world we live in today, that just isn't the case, todays society view gender as one of two things and nothing more. Those that really cant express who they want to be are looked down upon and its something that needs to be addressed. Throughout life, everyone should be treated equally despite the gender differences that may occur .
