Campus Engagement Events Reflection
Sex Signals
The main takeaways from the event Sex Signals were how to notice if someone was being
sexually harassed or taken advantage of. Was teaching young men how to properly handle if a
girl is uncomfortable and how to sense if she’s not okay. In the event, the presenters acted out
scenarios so we would know what it would look like in real life and would ask us how to go
about it. They would teach us the proper way to go about it and also added at the end contact for
services on campus. The goals of this event were to teach college students how to detect and
prevent sexual harassment on campus. It also taught ways a person can be affiliated with sexual
harassment without doing anything sexual to a person.
A way this can tie in with the school’s values with one being integrity as people(mostly
women) want to feel safe on campus, but can’t due to an incident that may happen. Integrity for
Georgia southern is creating a caring and respectful environment that is deeply committed to
ethical decision-making. This can be affected by someone making a bad decision that can affect
how safe someone feels on campus, and it also makes the person feel as they are less since it
happened to them. The school has many great ways to prevent sexual harassment from
happening on campus but it can still happen. A way I think this can be improved is by adding
cameras around the campus to record and playback any suspicious activities. I say this because I
have seen no cameras on campus, but I could just not be seeing on campus right. Other campus
events that would be beneficial for me are ones that will help me organize my schoolwork and
better my grades in my classes. Another event that can help me better myself is going to sports
games with my friends and also going to random events to meet new people so I can expand my
social skills.
Taking control of your time
The main takeaways of this event were to show students at Georgia southern different
ways they can better their time when it comes to classes and school work. We learned new ways
we can make a planner and apps that can help us keep track electronically. We were taught ways
that we can manage multiple assignments at the same time by using the Pomodoro technique. We
were taught many ways to study and how we can best make it effective. This event was a good
representation of Academic Excellence as it taught us ways to better our skills academically. We
were taught ways to challenge ourselves when studying and also when it comes to having a lot of
assignments due at once. It also goes with hat value as we gain knowledge in the ways that we learn to make us learn in the best way possible. The goals that I had in mind when I selected this
event were to learn new ways to better my time with assignments and also see if some things that
I do are bad habits. The most essential resource is the tutoring resources to help me when I have
a problem learning something in class. It supports my goals by helping me take advantage of my
time well so that way I get work done while learning to do it properly if I have a problem.
Real Talks
The main takeaways of this event were to give students ways to deal and go through
challenges they may have academically at Georgia southern. We learn how to know if the major
we are taking is essential to us and how to change our major if we want to. How we have to pay
attention to see what classes we like to take and classes that we don’t like to take. That classes
we don’t like we may do poorly in so that shows we may need to drop the class if we are not
interested in it. How classes may tell us that the classes we love may tell us what major we may
want to take. This event was good for the university value of collaboration as we came together
with faculty and students to learn new ways to teach and learn in classes. As students and faculty
came together for Real Talks in a cooperative way to teach ways they stay academically
successful to younger students. The goals that I had when going into this event were learning
new ways to better myself as a student and know ways to get through a situation if one came up.
Some other goals were to also see how going to events benefit me or helped change the way I do
things to show improvement in my work and also help change the effort I put in on some
assignments. The resource that is most essential to my success is the library as it helps give me a
quiet area to work in and also being able to contact my academic advisor for problems I may
have with classes and what I should do. This sport my goals by helping me improve as a person
and a college student when getting ready to choose what I want to do in life.
Sex Signals:
This event resonated with me personally as it made me realize the dangers of sex on camera and
that I can be affiliated just by small actions you make with friends. It also helped me see that as
young men we misinterpret when females say no and that it can scar women in a bad way for a
long time. It just taught me how to be safe and how to keep watch for any situations around me.
Taking control of time:
This event resonated with me by helping me take advantage of my time with classes and
schoolwork. It really taught me helpful ways to do better with my work and to manage
assignments so that I won’t get stressed out. It helped me be able to manage time so that I can
still have fun on campus and not just do work all the time. Real Talks:
This event resonated with me by showing me that other students are going through similar
problems as me and that they found ways to get through them. It really helped me know what t
do in situations that I would have been clueless about if I never went to that event. It helped me
improve my way of doing things in college and also made it easier going through life as a college
student on campus.
