Identity and Worldviews Reflection
A social location is a person’s position based on important social characteristics within a given
society. It influences what I experience by what my identity is or another person. It influences
what I see around me and how I can respond to certain situations in my society. It also influences
what I think is acceptable with certain things in society due to what I see around me. How what I
experience influences the way I see the world is by making a set of rules in my mind on what is
good and not good. It may make me see the world one way and I would probably put that on my
siblings passing it on without knowing. It affects how I would react to certain things and how I
may see events that happen in the country.
How I would describe my social location as a place with a lot of people that are mostly populated
by people of the African American community. It is an apartment complex with people that wake
up and go to work, basically doing the same thing every day. It is a calm place with a nice
atmosphere get that a real good city experience. It has a lot of things to offer with very nice
people, not many problems happen in my location. It is a great area to go out and have fun with
many places to choose from. It is a nice friendly place for people from other places to come and
visit.
One thing a person in my social location is most likely to experience is people being helpful
whenever you have a problem or need directions because people are willing to help anyone in
need. Another thing a person in my social location is most likely to experience is people starting
a conversation with you even if they don’t know you because people here are really that friendly.
My social location makes me more likely to experience this because of how it’s more people of
my color and everyone feels comfortable around each other. Many people grew up with each
other and were raised based on the same principles, so that gives people a sense of what is right
and what is wrong.
One thing a person in my social location is least likely to experience is people being hated for the
way a person is. Another thing a person is least likely to experience is being in an area where it is
quiet, as people will come together and have a lot of parties. My social location makes me less
likely to have these experiences because of how the people around me are and how they like to
come together in the community. For the one about the LGBTQ+ people are raised based on
religion in that area, so they are not accustomed to that due to growing up in religious families.
How people from different social locations experience Georgia southern differently by how they
perceive things that may happen in Georgia southern or how they may interact at the school once
they get there. The way they are they make like to do certain things on campus altering what all they can do while they are at Georgia southern. It can make people on campus look at situations
and events differently than one another based on coming from different social locations.
Different perspectives on what life is like on campus can be that some people may say that
Georgia southern throw parties a lot. People like me that does not go to parties may say it is a
calm school with quiet people. Some people may go off-campus and say that the school has
nothing for them to do. There are others that do activities on campus and may say there are many
things for people to do at Georgia southern. The way people may see things on campus is all
based on where they come from and how that influences what they may do on campus.
