Some of the mythical norms that I thought college was about are that people in college party all
the time. I found out that is not true, even though covid is going on people still don’t go out like
that on campus. That college is hard when it comes to doing work, that some essays will be too
long to write. The work in college is not hard, especially if you manage your time wisely and do
not procrastinate. That college professors do not care about students and their grades, and that
the professor is not willing to help a student. The professors I have to care about my education
and are always open if I need help with any assignment. That the professors tell you if you have
any questions to contact them and the professors answer in a timely fashion too. In college, it is
easy to meet new people on campus. Many people on campus either hangs with their roommates
or friends they knew coming into college. That Georgia southern dining commons had good
food. The food at Georgia southern isn’t bad, but it not the best and can mess up someone’s
stomach. I was told many times that when I go to college it will change me and I will be a more
open person. I have not changed and kept the same morals I had come into college.
The example that John Mooney talked about that made the most sense to me was “The world is
not built for the different, but for the same, and its architects are the few, the powerful.”, that
statement stuck to me with how I would always think being different is what made the world
what it is. As a kid, I would always see my family have different jobs and think that everything
in life was different for each person. I used this as a mythical norm because until a kid grows up
they will not understand that quote from the book, we think jobs are different when in reality
everybody does the same thing. Being different in the world is a struggle and not as easy as
many kids think, that transition into adulthood is what shows many people the truth. The world
runs on a system where everyone works many hours for different wages of pay. The powerful
people are the rich ones we work for and the ones that build places changing up the world. This
reflects an experience of my own because I soon realized that me having a different skill from
someone else doesn’t mean I won’t have the same lifestyle as them unless I make a change and
find a way to the top. I would always want to live a good lifestyle not knowing that it would be
difficult to get and that I would have to put in hard work to achieve it.
