BASIC CONCEPTS OF PERSONAL CLEANLINESS and THE HOSPITAL ENVIRONMENT (1) Purpose The aim of practicing personal hygiene is to maintain personal cleanliness, create beauty, increase one's health value so that you can prevent disease from occurring in yourself or others. (2) Types of personal hygiene This activity is carried out by a health worker in order to help them overcome their specific problems so that they are able to be independent, at least to achieve optimal independence without requiring much help from other people. This action includes basic routine nursing actions carried out by nurses in hospitals. (a) Care of the scalp and hair and the whole body (b) Eye care (c) Nose care (d) Ear care (e) Dental and oral care (f) Hand and toenail care (g) Perineal care (h) Body care (bathing). (3) Factors that influence personal hygiene (a) Culture There are many assumptions that have developed in society that when an individual is sick, the client should not be bathed because it can make the illness worse, and they should get lots of rest. (b) Socioeconomic status Individual financial resources influence the need to maintain personal hygiene, because personal hygiene depends on the facilities and infrastructure owned by the individual, such as: bathrooms, soap equipment, toothbrushes, shampoo and others. (c) Religion Religion also has an influence on individual beliefs in carrying out personal habits. Like the Islamic religion: cleanliness is part of faith. This will encourage someone in life that personal hygiene is important for survival. (d) Level of knowledge or individual development. A person's maturity will have an impact, one of which is better knowledge. This knowledge is needed in order to improve individual health status. Example : To avoid getting skin diseases, you have to shower every day, to keep your hair neat, you have to wash your hair regularly and comb your hair, etc. (e) Health status Illness or injury conditions will cause a decrease in an individual's ability to carry out self-care. Decreased ability to carry out self-care causes individuals to be in a weak condition which can ultimately lead to illness. (f) A person's habits This is related to a person's habit of using certain products in self-care, such as using showers, solid soap, liquid soap, shampoo, etc. (g) Congenital physical/mental defects Congenital disabilities and mental disorders make them unable to carry out activities independently. (4) Prevention of personal hygiene disorders (a) Maintains healthy skin (b) Avoid causative agents (c) Observe skin changes (d) Avoid therapy alone (5) Principles of personal hygiene Cleanliness of the skin and mucous membranes is very necessary, rationally the skin and mucous membranes need oxygen, food and water. In this case, it is necessary to get the opportunity to clean thecells from dirt. Conditions that disrupt the physiology of the skin will be reflected in skin color.
