Practice Reflection Practical reflection is useful for improving and developing Midwifery competencies that will be carried out, for identifying and correcting Midwifery activities or actions that have been carried out, preventing repeated errors or duplication of Midwifery actions that are felt to be incorrect, making the Midwifery care that is carried out more efficient , effective, and prevents 'Nursing errors' as well as improving the results of high quality Midwifery care and guaranteed health services. - Factors influencing practical reflection abilities a) Internal Factors - Midwives' values, beliefs, hopes, motivations and perceptions. Interdependent and Independent from the role & function of the Midwife. -Level of expertise & characteristics of the Midwife concerned. - Type and amount of experience. - Time/opportunity. b) External factors. Environmental factors, including: -Workload and time. - Standards, laws, policies and procedures in the work environment. - Organizational structure, relationships & position in the organization. - Patient Factors. -Culture, ethnicity, socio-economic and educational level. - Practice Reflection Strategy a) Midwives try to observe and explore information in the form of Midwifery phenomena or facts found in patients, either through pure observation or participant observation in carrying out Midwifery interventions b) The phenomena or facts found from patients are then compared with norms or ethical standards and analyzed to find data gaps, by answering "What, Where and When" c) The data gaps found are then formulated into a problem by analyzing to find the causes of the gaps found, by answering the question "Why" d) Formulate an alternative solution that contains improvements and development of the gaps or problems found, then adopted into a new habit. e) Practical reflection activities would be better if documented as“evidence based practice” - Patient's illness condition. - Values, beliefs, hopes for health. - Reflection Process - The reflection process in Midwifery practice is essentially a reflective activity based on facts or experiences that have been carried out. The reflection process includes: - Observation activities - Exploration - Comparison - Interpretation and solutions within the scope of professional midwifery practice.
